Mysore Palace Lights and Tipu’s Summer Palace

Recently we made a quick day trip to Srirangapatna and Mysore to capture the brilliance of Mysore Palace Illumination which has been a legacy dating back to more than a hundred years. It is also connected to how modern electrification began in Mysore, Karnataka – the first hydel project of India.

Not very far from Mysore, Srirangapatna is known as the old capital of the Tipu Sultan era. A beautiful quiet town with a beautiful summer palace housing stunning wall art and frescos. This was my second visit to the palace and each time I simply fell in love with the beautiful colours, pretty trees, flowers  and stories – all depicted on the walls!!

Mysore Dasara lights are a family photography legacy as my grandfather – Narayan Rao Kulkarni had photographed it too. I just wanted to stand on the same grounds to relive the stories told by my mother and to recreate the photograph in the current era.

Both palaces reveal the aesthetics, art and beauty that was revered by the Royal families and how art and science received due patronage.

Here are a few Canon clicks. Many thanks to Attagalatta Book club friends Vaishnavi and Vidya for making this fun trip possible!!
