My first framed photograph in an exhibition is on display at Gallery Gold, Kolkata. This is the photo of a shy bakery staff baking a fresh batch of Bakarkhani in one of the oldest wood fired bakeries – K. Ali Bakery, Mominpore which still bakes world war II era German breads.
I had clicked this when I wrote about Bakarkhani – a kind of flaky bread which was crafted in memory of lost love. Food stories are very interesting. Bakarkhani comes in various forms in different places. But it is named after the star crossed lovers and their tragic love story. This bread and its story binds India, Bangladesh and the Middle East. Drop into K. Ali Bakery to have them steaming hot at a highly affordable cost. It is a poor man’s food with a royal connection.
You will find my article about Bakarkhani on the Live History website which is now Peepul Tree.
If you are near Rabindra Sarovar drop into Gallery Gold to see the exhibition that ends today. This framed photograph will go back to Mominpore where it was clicked thanks to Sabir Ahmed of Know Your Neighbour..
My gratitude to organisers for nudging me to participate.
PS: Don’t miss Know Your Neighbour’s flagship event Breakfast with Bakarkhani if and when it happens 🙂
