Old China Town in Monochrome

Had another opportunity of visiting Old China Town in Kolkata, also locally known as Cheenapara. An old settlement of Chinese immigrants who took refuge in erstwhile Calcutta nearly 200 hundred years ago and transformed it culturally and aesthetically. But past glory is barely visible – thanks to tall goverment buildings and waste recycling plant. But temples/churches, art work, cultural ethos still are thriving in the neighborhood.

The dilapidated condition of Cheenapara has lead it to be nominated under World Monuments Fund. Will it save the neighborhood? Will it revive the culture? Only time alone will tell…
